Section 404 and Early Compliance

One indication of the positive side-effect of Sarbanes Oxley is that companies not required to comply with SOX are deciding to do it anyway.  The major benefit includes the implementation of rigorous internal controls that grow along with the company.  Brad Carlson, for example, reports in the Idaho Business Review that businesses in the Boise area view SOX as a positive development.  According to one IT consultant:  “As much of a headache as SOX might be, not a single person I’ve talked to disagrees with it . . . everyone says we need some kind of regulation and governance in that area. It will delay some people, but by and large I think the mood is that we’re going to move forward.”  For similar views with respect to small to medium sized businesses, read the article in the ECommerce Times by Theodore F. di Stefano.
