Reforming the SEC: Large Settlements

We are discussing the condition of the SEC and some proposed reforms.  We'll have a number of posts on the subject over the next week or so.

While much of this discussion is about things that have gone wrong, we take a moment to note some things that have gone right.  We are providing a link to the top ten largest settlements obtained by the Commission over the last year, including a settlement with Siemens that involved disgorgement of $350 million.  The total was almost $1 billion.

The Agency has its problems.  But in many ways, it is still a tough enforcer of the federal securities laws.
