Churchill v. University of Colorado: Traffic Report
J. Robert Brown |
Sunday, March 29, 2009 at 06:00AM The Race to the Bottom generally devotes itself to issues of corporate governance. In that context, we pay some attention to the amount of traffic on the Blog.
Traffic is sometimes counted through reference to the number of different IP addresses that visit a site each day. This is a surprisingly difficult thing to calculate since different people from the same institution, say a university, may have the same IP address. The most accurate tabulators insert a cookie into each visitor to ensure that they get a more accurate count.
It may also be counted by reference to page views. Page views count the number of total pages visited. In effect, it takes into account the fact that the same people may come back multiple times in the course of a day. It is probably a better gauge of the total amount of traffic on a blog.
Before coverage of the Churchill trial, The Race to the Bottom probably averaged about 800 page views a day. Since coverage began, the number of page views has tripled and quadrupled. It is a reflection of the serious interest in the trial and the desire by those following it for more information than what is carried in the traditional media. It is also, in my opinion, a tribute to the strong skills of the students covering the trial. Below is a table that contains the page views for The Race to the Bottom over the last three weeks.
